Specifications/Requirements

Server Requirements

DotcomMailer operates as a self-hosted PHP/MySQL software application, requiring your own server infrastructure. Understanding the appropriate environment for optimal performance is crucial.

Webhosting Criteria

DotcomMailer is compatible with most Linux-based web hosting services running PHP 7.2 and higher. However, shared or reseller hosting plans are not recommended due to potential limitations in resource allocation and email quotas, which may not meet DotcomMailer’s requirements.

For best results, we recommend utilizing a VPS or dedicated hosting solution that meets the following specifications:

  • Linux VPS/Dedicated server with a minimum of 2GB RAM (4GB recommended, see this page to know more…)
  • Minimum 20GB disk space (40GB recommended)
  • Functional website with a registered domain name (not just an IP address)
  • PHP version 7.2 or higher
  • MySQL version 5.7 or higher with InnoDB support
  • FTP access for script installation
  • CRON support for scheduled tasks
  • Local MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) such as Sendmail, Postfix, Exim, etc., capable of sending mail via SMTP locally or through a remote SMTP provider without strict outbound email restrictions. If uncertain, confirm with your web host regarding mail sending limits.
  • Required PHP extensions: MySQL, GD, Php IMAP, php-cli, OpenSSL, JSON
  • SSL certificate for server/hostname (typically offered free by most web hosts through Let’s Encrypt)
  • Optional but recommended: SpamAssassin module

Recommended Webhosting Provider

Web hosting services frequently update their offerings and terms, so we refrain from endorsing specific providers. Please select a web host that best suits your needs. Affiliate links may be present on this page, and we may earn a commission from purchases made through them.

For beginners, we recommend starting with at least a VPS M SSD plan.
